Each year after a long, hot summer, the weary LGS team is
rewarded with a coastal trip away courtesy of the big boss.
This has become somewhat of a pilgrimage over the years. Summer
is gone, giving the team a chance to get together and really
kick back. We call it staff development or team building,
others might say it’s just another surfing trip, but
what it really does is give us a chance to surf together,
have fun and get a little closer.
On the 20th till 23rd May, LGS shut its doors
for its seventh annual Lets Go Surfing ‘Trip Away’.
We took off to explore the waves of the Central Coast, our
destination, the sleepy town of Catherine Hill Bay.

LGS arrived and the locals didn’t know
what had hit their little community lost in time. Under threat
of development their silent protests flood the streets via
banners hanging from their balconies “save Catho Bay”.
The locals soon heard the roar of the painted LGS van and
twenty-five surf instructors from Bondi Beach. They KNEW THE
LGS team had arrived and were hungry for uncrowded waves and
ready to let loose.
The reality with coaching is that it’s
rare to find the time to surf and kick back together. This
trip away gives us the opportunity to see the other-side of
our work mates; team building at it’s best.

In true LGS spirit, we welcomed the trip away,
dressed in 80’s gym gear. Jodie’s award winning
performance of, “lets get physical,” (Oliver Newtown
John style) set standards, followed by Nigel’s break
dance moves in Cathy Freeman’s slash super hero suit
(keep searching youtube for this winning performance).
Activities consisted of surfing, playing back
yard cricket, surf tag competitions and blind folded games
where we were made to go through obstacles that we didn’t
know existed. This was all part of the team building experience.

80s Night |
But, no end of summer celebration would be complete
without an awards night to recognize the whole team and to
award the outstanding achievers for the season. Over the past
years LGS Coaching Director Marty Williams has been developing
an ongoing staff development program. These awards give the
opportunity to reward the people that have gone beyond this
program and given their best to the team of LGS. The program
is designed to ensure LGS continues to provide the most professional
and friendly surf school experience on Australia’s greatest
beach.
